Hotels and nice places to stay

Perceptions from our Roving Eye

Lauren Case on the Jurys Inn in Leeds
The Jurys Inn Leeds hotel in Kendell Street on Brewery Wharf, by the banks of the river Aire, is located just 25 minutes from the busy hub of Leeds Bradford International Airport and yet only five minutes from the city centre making it the perfect spot when it comes to hotels in Leeds. Finding the hotel was pretty easy, plenty of road signs clearly posted inthe somewhat confusing ring roads around Leeds. This is a city built on industry, and business is always a hugely important part of the local heartbeat.

The hotel was in what seemed like a newly developed area that was peaceful and away from the sounds of the city even though being only a few minutes’ walk from the city centre making it the perfect spot when it comes to hotels in Leeds. This is a city built on industry, and business is always a hugely important part of the local heartbeat. We travelled by car and the hotel didn’t have a car park – however they did offer discounted rates at a secure undercover car park which was about a 5 min walk from the hotel. This would have been awkward if taking luggage to and from the car. We decided to use the parking out on the street of the hotel as it was extremely quiet and very cheap. Staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival and there seemed to be plenty of staff about down in the main reception/lobby areas.

The hotel has 248 bedrooms in total. The rooms were all standard and comfortable enough and furnished with a nice sized flat screen TV with freeview – so plenty to flick through if needed. Very clean and presentable on arrival, with a nice touch of fresh home-made cookies and two large bottles of Mineral water waiting for you. There were tea and coffee making facilities available and were well stocked and replenished completely.

One major downside was the lack of plug sockets available. For those of us that have numerous phones, laptops etc that we can’t seem to live without these days – we found ourselves having to unplug lights and kettles in awkward places to get power.
Did notice that there was no clock/alarm clock in room – however reception were happy to provide wake-up call if needed.

Bathroom and accessories
The bathroom was very clean and spacious – bath and shower. There was shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided in large dispensers on the wall, although we used out own products. Only downside to the shower was that it was a fixed head that was not adjustable – so any ladies rushing and wanting to shower without wetting hair and redoing it all will come unstuck! There was a hair dryer in the room that was fixed to the inside of desk drawer that you had to hold down to keep it on – so a little bit time consuming!

Food and Drink
The lobby and bar have recently been refurbished and are very comfortable. Drinks are reasonably priced and bar stays open until 1.30am. The restaurant was quite small and had also just been refurbished – we only made use of this facility during breakfast. The breakfast was a buffet style with full English and continental choices. There wasn’t too much out at any one time, which was a good thing as it was constantly being brought out fresh.

Techs and Gadgets
There is WiFi available only in the lobby area which is payable – however if you buy a drink in the bar, they give you an hour free although you need to move into the lobby to pick up the signal. There is also hi-speed internet connection available in the rooms but only via cable and this also payable at £5.00 an hour or £10.00 for 24 hours. There was a handy charging station in the reception area – which had ports for blackberries/phones/computer consoles
etc Along with one computer available if you did not have your own laptop.

All in all, we had a very comfortable stay, with friendly and welcoming staff.

Other comments: The hotel adequate for a couple of days quick stop over, but probably wouldn’t want to stay too much longer than that.
